Welcome to DIAMUN 2010

Dubai International Academy has pleasure in inviting you to participate in the 2nd Annual Model United Nations Conference, DIAMUN 2010, to be held in Dubai from 18 - 21 February 2010.

The primary aim of DIAMUN is to provide students with a forum to discuss global concerns in a context that closely parallels the real world. In a Model UN Conference, students learn vital skills in research, writing, speaking, consensus building and conflict resolution as they step into the role of delegates for the countries they represent.

DIAMUN 2010 will specifically address the Impact of Globalisation. The far reaching effects of the recent financial crisis have brought into stark reality the interdependence of all countries throughout the world. DIAMUN will use this focus as a vehicle to discuss the impact of globalisation on topics concerning disarmament and international security, social, humanitarian and cultural concerns, and issues surrounding the economic and financial health of the world community.

We will also be hosting a World Economic Forum which will focus on developing a corporate governance system where values are as important as rules; since economic progress without social development is not sustainable and social development without economic progress is not feasible.

Message from Anja Gullerfelt, Secretary General

Anja Gullerfelt
Secretary General

On behalf of Dubai International Academy and the entire Conference Secretariat, I am delighted to welcome you all to DIAMUN 2010.

Model United Nations provides diverse exposure to students from different backgrounds and cultures, life long global understanding are valuable assets that will serve you well for your future, and DIAMUN 2010 will continue this theme.

The theme of DIAMUN 2010 is The Impact of Globalisation. Today, in a world that is fast paced, ever changing and extremely international, this theme provides a multifaceted platform for discussion. The topics have been chosen for their importance on the international stage, and will allow delegates to solve abstract problems with concrete actions.

Being a delegate at any conference is a privilege, and I strongly urge you all to prepare yourselves for the high calibre of debate and diplomatic intrigue that we will enjoy in February. Jack Kinder said,

‘High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectations.’

Expect the very best out of DIAMUN 2010, aspire to make a difference in your own way and I guarantee that DIAMUN 2010 will be unforgettable. In the meantime, I wish you all the best in your preparation.
